Gateway Middle School Charter Approved by SFUSD!
We are pleased to announce that on Tuesday, April 13th the San Francisco Board of Education voted to approve our charter for a new Gateway Middle School to open in the Fall of 2011. We thank Superintendent Carlos Garcia, President Jane Kim, Vice President Hydra Mendoza and all the commissioners for their thoughtful consideration of our charter.
Gateway’s excellent support in the community and our track record of success with a diverse student population were important reasons that our charter was approved. Thank you to the many Gateway students, families, staff and friends who came to the Board of Education meetings, spoke on our behalf and who support us behind the scenes each day.
Like Gateway High School, Gateway Middle School will offer a rigorous educational program with an emphasis on core academic skills, a commitment to identifying and supporting students’ unique learning styles and needs, a small diverse learning community, and a commitment to preparing all students for college.
As we launch this new chapter in Gateway’s history, we appreciate not only the opportunity given to us, but the incredible responsibility to educate young minds for success in the classroom and in life.
Sincerely,
Sharon Olken, Principal of Gateway High School
"Now it is widely recognized that during the middle grades we have the best chance to keep students on the path to graduation and prepared for success in college and career. These students deserve the best we have to offer."
